dumbell shrugs

Angry dumbell shrugs

hey everyone,
i was wondering if someone can give me some tips on how to do shrugs with dumbells CORRECTLY because i have tried several ways and no matter what i cannot get a burn in my left trap (i get a slight burn in my right trap though) i have even tried really heavy weights that i can only squeeze out about 6 reps, and still no burn.

First off make sure you keep your chin tucked into your chest and you want to shoulders up and back like in a 45 degree angle from the start point to the finish point ( i hope you understand ) and i would also try and up the reps to the 15-25 range

you want a good shrug---take a bar and load it up and do shrugs with it behind you

if you want big traps then deadlift

as for shrugs, the barbell behind the back is awesome.

Never rotate your shoulders on shrugs.

SHRUGS...

I like to do heavy barbell...
Then I head to DB's where I hang the DB's in front of me with my palms facing my thighs. I bend my knees a little to release the stress off my lower back and put the stress on my quads. I pull my shoulders up to my ears...I don't bring my ears to my shoulders. I pause for 1 sec and tehn lower the weight.

THen I head over to the lower row machine(it has to be on the ground). I use the single handle and do more shrugs rotating each shoulder with no rest...that gets a good burn

NEVER ROLL YOUR SHOULDERS AS STATED ABOVE

do heavy dumbbells (100 min) and lean forward slightley witht the dumbbells on the side/front of your leg, where it feels natural to lay. and squeeze at the top and hold for a half second.

I get best results by doing heavy shrugs. 6-7 reps and squeeze the traps hard at the top.

Sure I'm not the first to try this but the other day I was doing barbell shrugs with an underhand grip and got a TOTALLY different feel in my traps for the next couple days. Give it a shot.

Concentrate on contracting and releasing the traps muscles instead of just trying to get the weight up. As with any muscle group if you are unable to do a full range of motion and really feel the muscles working, you need to drop in weight. Heavy isn't always necessarily better if you're not feeling the muscles working.
