preparing yourself mentally for a set

one overlooked factor to a good work out is mental preperation so I decided to write about it. If you are in the same mind state while doin a set as your while sitting behind that computer screen im willing to bet your bodys nothing thats turning heads. Theris a few things I do while in the gym, for getting pumped up, lets say im about to start a set to failure on the bench, I will lay bach when im physically read to begin, the start the mental preperation. theirs a few places I can go to in my head to release some adrenline for assistance. One is visualizing my Goal body, what I would love to look like and watching myself outside of myself, maybe on stage for my competition. Another thing, My x girlfriend she is the reason i started working out again, after new years, she [*%#*%*#] me over big time, thinking of her current boyfriend banging her and watching her get into it, will put me over the edge, if you were picked on, visualizing revenge on a certain bully, seeing yourself the size of greg kovachs comming back to the bully to give him a taste of what you have been put threw overtime. A lot of have places in our head we put away and try to close the book on, for me when I start that set, I go staright to these places and give it everything I have, usually the more unpleasent the things you think of are the more harder your going to push, getting to failure is not questionable for me or ever an issue, its a must and its something that is done with ease. not only is this good for getting a good set, but it can help a lot to take a load off your shoulders.

Fully agreed dude. I use the same one, the old girlfriend bangin the new guy and getting all up and into it. Then while I'm picturing that, I see her looking over at me at saying something screwed like "This is soooo much better than you" that drives me NUTZZ!!! So I go at it.....failure.... easily brought on by a mere unpleasant visualization.

good thread bro

Mentality is half the battle in the gym, going in half hearted is stupid as you will get nothing done. My get up is much like yours in that i imagine what i want to look like and think that whatever im about to lift is nothing more than a feather.

Women are the absolute L A S T thing I want clouding my concentration during a workout. I can remember way too many workouts that were f'd up because I was preoccupied with relationship problems.

I focus on short term goals to keep my concentration and focus on the task at hand.

When I train, I try to focus on all the small things (Elbows in, Explode off the chest, sitting back, head up, etc.) that will allow me to make a certain Max Effort Lift.

At meets, I unleash rage, anger, and hate onto the bar!

I'm a calm and focused person when lifting. I never get cranked up for gym lifts. When it's my turn to lift, I just go and lift it.
