Twice a day?

What's the consensus on working out twice a day? Right now I work out five days a week, once a day, golf on saturday. Would training twice a day be too much (overtraining) or, if I were to work different bodyparts might this help "shock" my routine a little? Basically, do the benefits outweigh the negatives? Any insight would be helpful....:help:

if one is your early morning cardio,or you only target one muscle per workout i.e biceps (morning) calves,(evening)........

preist943,

I'm not at all. Still gaining as much knowledge as possible before "jumping in." I've been lifting for about 10 years (Football mostly) but, have been serious about lifting (in terms of physique) for four years and am trying to get all I can first, before taking it to the next level.

I only ask this question because I have the ability to work out twice a day. If it's not such a good idea, that's cool, I can go work on my golf game...Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks Bro!

it's no big deal to do twice a day, it's only overtraining you if you're not getting enough rest to account for the workload you're putting on your body.

Overtraining doesn't happen in a workout or even a week, it takes a period of time and if you get enough rest and switch up your routine you'll be fine.

Double split training is used by bodybuilders at all levels and is often helpful in generating intensity for both body parts. If you find yourself getting too burned out after a back workout and unable to hit bis with full intensity, go back and hit them hours later with full intensity.

Bottom line is, if you want to switch things up, double split is fine, just get enough rest and plenty of nutrients, expecially that all-important protein.

I sometimes do twice a day IF neccesary, i mean by this, its never neccesary if you can actually get in the gym 5 days a week, but if you need some catching up to do, as long as you carb up and get a few hrs rest after work out #1, it should be fine as long as your not doing the same muscle group...as far as cardio goes as beign your 2nd workotu of the day, I do this and think its fine, it doesnt even have the same effect on your body since it requires no resistence, if your doing a weight training/cardio program togeather, your going to have to do them sometimes on the same days, their are only 7 days in a week, mine are used up doing 6days/week weight trainging, 4/week cardio(every other day)..
