overtraining

I have recently found out that overtraining is no myth...
last winter during bulking for four months I worked out with a couple buddys from work..10-12 years younger then me..
you talk about intensity...it was almost gauranteed that one of us would puke or bleed every wk! we worked out four days a wk and ate like madmen...I gained 3-4lbs of mass last year..
this winter I have been working out alone(has nothing to do with anything)and have kept the intensity high, but have only been working out three times a wk at the most..dropped from four exercises per body part to two..lots of low reps..so I have cut my training in half and I am guessing(hard to tell with the flab)but I think I gained 10lbs of mass the last four months..I am 41 so I`m guessing the extra time to heal is doing me right..I think about this and it blows my fuckin mind! less is more..anyway, just thought I`d share that with ya..

besides, if I don`t post, who the fuck will! :-) hint, hint.

later,
broNson

Thank goodness for Bronson, eh? /; */

Ive changed my "routine" a bit as well and only weight train now 4 days a week from 5 days/6 days and I have noticed a difference in size/strength. Ive done this for the past 5-6 months or so. I would think that the extra time off has played a role in this. Ive also "tried" to keep a closer look at what I eat (or ate) at times, so this is probably a factor as well.

I read an article written by dorian yates that stated at the end of his career he was working each bodypart once every 10-11 days..he said the bigger he got the more rest he required...by taking longer rest periods it allowed him to continue to grow..
at the end he was 300lbs and lean..he is a legend in my book!

I too think that going only 3 times a week to the gym works better for me.I used to go 5 times a week and saw no more growth than just going three.I am and guess will always be a hardgainer. How many reps do you do per set Bronson?

this winter I followed a powerliftin type routine..concentrating on compound movement..squat,deadlift, flat bench..mostly in the 4-6 rep range..sometimes doing singles..now I`m doing higher reps, 8-12 but still only doing two exercises per bodypart..2-4 sets each depending how I feel...sometimes I can get it done in 2 and sometimes it takes 4..for me the key is making sure my last set is balls to the walls all out!! it only takes that one set for me, the other 1-2 are just a warm up...intensity with good form has taken me years to acquire...to be able to go all out with textbook form is hard..when I think of the years I spent torturing my joints with sloppy form..
experimentation is what it`s all about terumo! where there is a will there is a way..
later bud,

I started doing my deadlifts in this fashion.I started out with 2 sets of 10 reps to warm up.Then I would add a bit more weight and do 1 rep.Rest about 1 min. then add more weight and so on.I would do about 8 one rep sets, getting up to my max deadlift on my last 1 rep set. It did wonders for my strength in the deadlift. Now thats the only way I do them.I used to hate deadlifts, but now I love em.

I recently stepped down from doing 4-5 sets of everything to only doing 3 sets on each, a large part of this was I was coming off my last cycle, I think its working because I've been off for over 3 weeks and my strenth is still continuing to increase, and considering my cycle was Prop/winny, thats well outta my system

|--[\\\]>------- Well you dont grow IN the gym, but OUT. When you lift, you are putting stress on the body and breaking down the muscle tissue. More rest days means more time for those muslce fibers to grow and less 'stress' on your body. I started my new job few weeks ago and i'm busy as hell, so now i only train 4 days a week and i'm strong as hell...my weight is consistant, but my strength is awsome!
