Starting Bodybuilder and need advice

I am at the age of 17 and approximentally 220 pounds about 5'10". As you all know the football season just began and i am sidelined for the season with a concussion and broken nose. I have decided to take up bodybuilding. It sounds alittle drastic but i think i need this. As you all know 5'10" 220 pounds isnt exactly Mr. Muscle! I'm lookin to drop down to about 180 which is my goal and I know it is goin to take time and hard work so thats why I came here. Over the past 2 or so years of course i have been liftin for football and I mean im not so out of shape but now that i am not participatin in the sport I have to stay active and I believe this is the best way for me. I'm a dedicated reader to FLEX and i got a good workoutprogram but now all I need is to be led in the right directions as far as a diet goes. Now of course sometimes school gets in the way but here is my schedule...Leave for school at 7, lunch at 11 till about 11:30, get out 2:37 and then free from there. I appreciate it guys.

dude a concusion and a broken nose put you out for the season? i know doc's and school are really hard to deal with but if you cant get back and do decide to go into BB i would suggest goin to your local library and pick up every bood on BB and powerlifting tons of info in there and try to make some connestions, former BB or powerlifters or personal trainers. packing a lunch solves all your problem for keeping your diet on track, talk to your teachers make sure its okay to eat a quick meal in class. and whats your BF%? since your already dedicated to lifting keeping that diet wont be too hard

You want to LOSe weight?? When I was your age I was 180 pounds, and I wanted to be 220....Are you chubby perhaps? If so, get your diet in order, train hard, and stick around and learn.

I have the same problem ever since was about 13 the weight went on way to easily. Now I weigh more then I did in highschool and have a 2-3 inch smaller waist. Anyway this will sound pathetic but just realize your body is very very good at using calories and you can't eat like others. This was hard for me to accept. The simplest way is cut out all simple sugars no pop, candy bars, etc for starters. Next would be an atkins type diet. I recommend going to milossarcev.com and reading every thread pertaining to diet on his bulletin board. This information is free and he is very thorough and I have learned much from him. Plus he writes for your favorite mag.
