I absolutely love humalog. I usually take it post workout, immediately followed by about 5-6 grams of carbs in the form of dextrose per IU, then another 8 grams of carbs (a mix of
maltodextrin in the Met-RX MRP, a couple rice or corn cakes and dextrose) per IU about an hour later when it peaks.
The reasoning for the lower initial carb intake than usually prescribed by the majority (the standard 10 grams per IU) is that within the first 15 minutes of administering humalog, is when the the onset begins and the exogenous slin levels begin to take effect and rise. Hence the amount of dietary carbs ingested at this juncture does not need to be as high as when the log peaks, which is between the 45 minute to one and a half hour post injection period.
As far as Chad Nicholls recommendations of slin use with fructose as the staple carb source, I really don't see the logic. Fructose is best used to refill liver glycogen and is poor at refilling depleted levels of muscle glycogen. Not to mention that too much ingested fructose will interfere with dietary glucose taken at the same period being stored as muscle glycogen and instead promotes a higher likelihood of the simultaneous ingestion of glucose being stored and deposited in adipose tissue.
