well

is this your first bike? if so I would go for something smaller like cbr 600 in that range and how ex are you on riding? If new to the game then start out with a used bike and then buy a new one because you always lay them down!
builtbig

I own a little cbr 600

Simon,

Congrats on deciding to get a sportbike. Will this be your first bike? If so, the MOST you should go for is a 600cc and even then a f2 or f3, which are very forgiveing imho, are the ones you should go for. There are alot of sportbike boards out there that will be able to answer your questions regarding the bikes you mentioned. Most of them will have a sticky on choices for a good first bike as well.

Stripper, I think its a little irresponsible of you to give someone advice on getting a literbike if you have no idea how much experience they have. Bored with a 600? I have a 600 (2 of my 8 bikes are, actually) and I'm not bored yet. In fact, I'm not bored with my 250cc aprilia racebike, with which I'm sure I could take you on the corners of any track on your 900. Hell, if the 900 was your first bike, I could probably take you on a 125cc nsr because you will not learn to ride properly on one. Let me guess- does your riding attire consist of shorts an flip-flops? Not trying to flame, but its easy enough to kill yourself on a 600 supersport, much less a literbike with no experience....

Vein - The R1 is a sweet bike, but is also probably the stupidest choice for a newbie there could ever be.

Builtbig, good advice :)

Cheers

Get a Harley and be a real man. hahahaha. If you are going to get a sport bike get a Suzuki GSX1300R hyabusa. That bike kicks ass. I ride a 2001 Harley Dyna Wide Glide.

i agrea if its his first bike the r1 would probely be a bit much for him. Iwould actuely probely buy an older ninja off ebay and learn to ride on that. Hell they are cheap enough and if you lay it down its no big thing. A buddy of mine got an r1 fi his first bike. The first day he had it he wrecked it tore his hands elbows and kness to shreads and spent 3 weeks in the hospital.

question

you have to sit back and ask yourself how crazy are you ? I mean my first bike was a kas. 750KLR. at like 13 and that was bad? To big and to heavy and I was new at riding? experacne is the key to riding and living long. Get an old smaller bike so you don't kill yourself and if in a month or a yr it is not enough sell it and buy a bigger and faster one! Who ver started lifting weights and through 400 to 500 pounds on! Know I am sure people will say they did but they didn't! Baby steps bro, that is how it works if your smart!!

builtbig cares!

gsx-1000 Don't be a pussy! I had a cbr600f3 and sold it in 3 months now i drive the 1000. But I chose it becuase for me that was just the most comfortable one! If you want a big one try the ninjas also the are pretty comfy to ride and offer alot of wind protection! But if you see me get the fuck outta the way :kickass:

I have rode most of the streetbikes that ya'll are talking about and i have to say my vote is for the R1 or the gsxr-1000. I have rode both and the R1 can't even hold water against the gsxr-1000. Don't get me wrong both are excellent bikes and have way more power than you will ever need but i straight line acceleration the gxsr wins the only problem is keeping the front end on the ground in both bikes. If it is your first bike then a gsxr-750 or cbrF4i would both be alrigth but if i was in your situation pay cash for a smaller bike that you plan to own for 3 months or so then upgrade and spend more money on a newer or new bike that you will feel comfortable on. Just make sure you buy a first bike that you can put 5k miles on it and not lose your ass on it when you sell it. Doing this you don't kill yourself to early, buy a bike that you end up being afraid of, or scaring yourself from riding bikes althogether (which i have seen happen many times!!). Good luck and watch out for OTHER cars.

there are a lot of different app. on this matter. and no this 9 is not my first. and yes sometimes at the beach i wear shorts and no shirt on my bike. but on the track i wear my leathers.
from my experience guys who get a 600 get tired of it in a month and then lose there ass on it when they sell it. and get a bigger bike. just becarefull and don't act like a racer on it when u are not ready too.

I will can probably wager that I have more experience on a bike than most here and 600cc is not 'too little' for me. Bigger bikes are only more powerfull at higher speeds and as a newbie you shouldn't go above 100mph anyway so whats the point? Not to mention a heavier bike is harder to control. Valentino Rossi rides a cbr600f4 on the street and you think that he would be bored with it as his track ride has over 200hp, weighs 250 pounds and goes over 190mph.
