Explain Human grade vs. Vet.

I've been wondering about the differences of human grade gear vs. vet gear. I read somewhere that the human grade product is required to have more or less concentration and that is the only difference. the formula and ingredients, etc. are IDENTICAL.

Is this true?

From what I know, Vet grade is generally of poorer quality (underdosed, sterility issues) yet I like a lot of vet stuff, (eq for example) and you will usually find more vet stuff in vials rather than amps...

As far as concentration that is probably the whole dosage issue, human grade ANYTHING needs to be much more scrutinized then something for animals, that is just how it is.

Human grade has to meet more regulations - better and constant labels, constant strength, not underdosed, MUCH better sterility than animal stuff, etc. The actual drug itself is the same, just the way the final product is manufactured is what differs.

what everyone has said is true, but as long as the chemical name is the same, you're ok. For instance, I never use human grade penicillin for infections, I go straight to the farm store. Penicillin is penicillin is penicillin. Same goes for gear, but human gear is much cleaner and dosage strength will not vary. Human gear is much more expensive than vet gear also. Basically, you get more product for less $ with vet grade. Drawback on vet grade is sometimes you have sterililty issues, since most vet grade gear is manufactured and packaged outside the U.S. and thus is not mandated by the FDA.

Ok well I think I'm a little more exprienced in this area, I have work for the largest Drug company the in US and abroad for the last 10 yrs. Before this company sold its animal health division I worked on all the Control systems for the plant and I can tell you this..If its made by American or European drug co, there is NO differance in quality, sterility what so ever! some these companies you have heard of...Pfizer, Merck, Wryeth, Squibb, Smith-Klein , Schreing etc. Its the mexican stuff you have to be cautious about

Johnny B your correct about what you said. I work for one of those company's you just mentioned. I'm pretty sure most people here have heard of recalls on drugs. Well alot of times it's because it's underdosed or missing main ingredients. But human sterility is alot cleaner then the vet grade. If you worked in the manufacturing side you know it gose threw a little more filters then the animal grade. And it has to pass threw QC/QA standards, human and vet grades.
