Umbilical Hernia

Umbilical Hernia

I got one of these and it's killing me. the doc says no working out for 6 weeks after the surgery. I was wonderign if anyone has had this b/c it's not uncommon. If so, how long did oyu really stay out of the gym? I assume you can still train arms, calfs, and anything else that doesn't put strain on the abdomen.

I had 3 umbilical repairs in my life. I took 6 weeks off each time. The 3rd surgery was when they put the mesh in. That was 13 years ago and I never had a problem again.

This is gonna suck, I haven't taken more then 1 week off in 6 years, now I gotta take 6-8.

During the 4 years I was in the Marines I had trouble with my (belly button). It seemed like somebody was pulling it through my stomach from my back so I went to the doc. He said that I could have it repaired but I chose not to. It still bothers me today sometimes. Fuck surgery! Wait till it is absoultly necessary.

I went to see a surgeon about it and he gave me the low down. I first noticed it b/c by belly button sticks out like some of the pro's, but I never took GH so I doubt it was the cause. He said I could have gotten it a number of ways, most likely training. It's weak spot in the body to begin with so it's prone to hernia's. If you don't get it taken care of there are alot of things that can happen, nausea, back pain, infections, discharge, etc. Although it's not that painful, it still should be fixed. It's best to be proactive and fix it when you can, then wait for something worse to occur.

I had one repaired last year. I started lifting on week four after my surgery. Keep it light and you will be fine. You do not want to do anything that will make you add presure or pull at it till about eight weeks. Example no squats. You can do enough to stay toned and not lose what you have.

Its caused by straining when ya lift. that area is just a weak area. I had the surgery and trust me... NO LIFTING till the DOC says. If you do any lifting, you will mess up. Just take the time as a break. you will come back stronger and refreashed, your body needs a break from time to time anyway. Don't stress it.

I feel ya bud...

I have been exercising for 15 years, and the most time I have taken off was 2 weeks. It just kills ya mentally. The break will do you good. Muscle memory will kick in and you will back ot normal in 4 to 8 weeks.

I get this thing fixed on Friday, so I decided not to be a moron and I'm gonna sit out the 6 weeks Doc told me too. I just ended my cycle 3 weeks ago so right when I can lift again, I can start my next run. So it all works out.

At least I won't be afraid to take my shirt off at the beach next summer. I got like 400 comments about my belly button this summer. Most of them were girls saying,"Ewwwwwww.......what's wrong with that!" LOL
