Glucopahge - Big A, you once commented...
Hi all,
This is directed towards Big A, but please feel free to comment.
Big A,
You once commented in a thread about Glucophage or Metaformin and its use. You went on to explain how it worked and you talked out its general use and its advantages in the general pucblic. Could you please talk about about the benefits of its use again, not only for me, but for anyone else thinking about trying it.
Basically, you convinced me to give it a shot, and although it gave me the shits at the start (literally) I am enjoying it so far.
Thanks.

Glucophage is the brand name for metformin hydrochloride.
Metformin is NOT oral insulin. People confuse it as such, because in most countries oral insulin is called Diamicron and metformin is called Diaformin.
When your body releases insulin, over time, your insulin receptors get 'dull', less responsive. In advanced stages that becomes type II diabesis.
Metformin 'refreshes' those receptors, making them more sensitive to the insulin that your body releases.
It is a great product. Taken straight after a large meal, within the hor you will have EXTREMELLY full muscles. Dosages are 500mg after a normal to large carb meal, 1,000mg after a big carb meal and 1,500mg after all you can eat at Pizza Hut. You can take it after as many meals in a day as you wish, as long as those are large carb meals.
I believe every human should be on metformin, as it helps keep your insulin receptors fresh and as such it will prevent typeII diabesis.
How's that BBK? =)

Thanks mate, thats exactly what I wanted to read.
I have noticed also that after I take it, say an hour to 90mins, the area that I have trained recently will become almost pumped again. Its a good feeling.

Thats too funny!! Actual insulin (that can kill you if not properly monitored) is OTC. But Glucophage which would take a dump truck load to OD on, is perscription. I really don't get it!! Who makes up these rules anyways?

Would it be poosible to use gluco in prep for a contest say the last few days or the last day of to blast the muscles to fullness?
Or would there be too many other variables that would make it to hard to use?

It's very good for contest prep. It won't screw anything up. Much more predictable and 'safe' on your condition than insulin. Insulin for comp use is very reliant on other factors.

So if I get it right metformin increases recepter sensitivity causing less of an insulin response. This environment with lower levels of insulin promotes less fat storage. How would this be used on the bulk?????? or on the cut. I have a bottle 500 mg and I was wondering If i should take it after a cheat meal or before ?????????

No, Metaformin will increase insulin sensitivity. It will not make your body produce less insulin. The more sensitive to insulin you are, the more effective it is on storing carbs/ protein. And I would avoid any type of insulin when eating a cheat meal high in fat. The insulin will be just waiting to grab all the fat you ingest and store it!! Thats why they call insulin, "the storage hormone"

Indirectly it will make the body release less insulin because when your receptors are more sensitive, the body won't need as much insulin so it won't produce as much.
Everything else is correct though :1book:

Also..
Assuming I use it for contest prep, how would you dose it while carb loading the last few days? I mean, I'm going to carb load very gradual starting three days out, so I won't be taking in "large" amounts of carbs at any one time. Or only use it the last day or morning of when I hit the carbs the heaviest?

You use it the same for everything. Just after a carb meal. Carb meal meaning 100g of carbs minimum. For 100g of carbs is when you take 500mg of metformin.
And yes, you can eat fat meals as metformin will indirectly prevent the fat being deposited.

Re: Hmm
"what are the side effects, or possiable side effects of this."
virtually non existant. you can enter hypo if you take too much in comparison to the amount of carbs you ingested.
"Can you take it one day and it wont matter if you take it the next?"
correct.
"Can you take it for too long"
nope. I am of the belief that everyone, bodybuilder or not, should use this daily for ever.
"or take too much?"
see the first question

Just started 500mg a day with 200mcg T4 and 1 x Adex EOD, doing this for a week PRE 1200mg sust per week with that going too 2000-2500mg per day & amp; 4 x the T4 dosage 800mcg.
Apart from the for-head sweat the T4 has given me so far, I can surelly say the Metformin has increased the over all PUMP I get from my work outs.
Regards,
Sooku.

Big A...
gotta a question for ya. Last Nov. my Dr. informed me that I was borderline diabetic and totally switched my diet around in order to get my tryglicerides down. I haven't had much luck. He has put me on Armour Thyroid meds and it has come down some. Would glucophage help me in my situation?

Hell yes. That's what's made for. Probably because you are borderline, he is not allowed legally to prescribe it to you yet. See, the law allows docs to prescribe you drugs to cure something but not to prevent it - there's warped logic for you.
