If your eating carbs, I'd take 1.5g of protein per lb of LBM. If your on a low carb diet...take 2.0g of protien per lb of LBM.

my lifting partner works in the health care industry and knows lots of doctors...he been asking lots of questions pertaining to lifting and dieting lately and he happened to ask about how much protein one should consume...the doc told him that someone should not go on with 2 grams per pound of body weight for a very long time, it puts a strain on your kidneys...he said ideally you should shoot for about 1.25 grams per pound of body weight...that is the amount they put burn victims in the hospital on and they require large amounts of protein for recovery...just my two cents

I use 1.5 g per pound as my baseline. I routinely go way above that. Big A would know what the pros take in. It's my understanding that the pros take in huge amounts of protein. Rarely does the medical community take into account that hard training athletes have greater nutritional needs than sedentary people.
